Does Age Matter When Dating A Woman You Really Like?
If having a family isn’t part of your future plans then there are examples of many happy and healthy couples who have age gaps of 10 – 20 years. If having a family is something you want from a relationship then obviously age differences become a bigger consideration. Financial, health and economic factors also change as we grow older and these can sometimes make child rearing more difficult in later life. Most people feel more comfortable dating those closer to their age. There are all sorts of rules when it comes to dating someone with an age difference, but should that really be a deciding factor in your relationship? It’s a fact that age gap in dating and relationships is still socially stigmatized.

People fall in love with others who are similar to them on a whole host of dimensions. Educational background, values, political orientations, race and ethnicity, leisure interests, you name it. Yet, as robust as this pattern might be, age bucks the trend.
Libra looks for long-lasting love when he’s dating someone, and an older woman will understand that fully. Things may become challenging when the younger partner is not ready to settle down. They might feel under pressure, which could cause major problems in the relationship.
But the evolutionary explanation is limited in that it doesn’t explain why the reverse occurs (an older woman-younger man pairing), or why age gaps exist within same-sex couples. For this, socio-cultural explanations might provide insights. When someone of 30 is dating someone who is 50 the age difference may not seem particularly significant. It will, however, likely start to become more difficult when issues around retirement or health problems arise. A 60 year old who is only just approaching retirement may be making plans for tackling all those ambitions that they haven’t had a chance to fulfil while working. An 80 year old will be coping with very different life challenges and the differences could lead to a range of issues that weren’t apparent earlier on in the relationship.
Though I’m not an expert in relationships by any means, ultimately, leave all judgment behind when you find someone truly special. No two people are the same, just like no two romances are the same. Most people see kissing as an essential part of a sexual encounter, but in casual hookups and commercial sex, some avoid kissing altogether.
We were married a month before she turned 39, had two chemical pregnancies, two miscarriages, a fibroid surgery, and two kids . On the other hand, an older partner might want marriage and kids, but feel like their biological clock is ticking. Sensing that they are running out of time, they might unknowingly pressure their partner to commit or have children before they are ready. For example, a younger partner might be entering into a relationship with the expectation of getting married, having children, and starting a family with their partner.
Focus on your similarities, not your differences.
Amongst celebrities, age gap relationships are quite normalized. For most outsiders, relationships with significant age differences tend to raise eyebrows. However, for many couples, the fear of judgment isn’t enough to wane true love. Having misaligned energy levels won’t just play itself out as you two decide how to spend your Friday night. If she’s constantly pooped because she’s a 10 or 15 years older than you, well guess what, there’s no turning back time.
Large age differences can bring up the possibility of unbalanced power dynamics. Porche explains that even in a secure relationship, an older partner might assume an authoritative role. Before it happened to me, I knew some other dads at my kid’s school who ended up with younger women.
In my opinion, that’s much sexier than someone who… Reminder – dating after a divorce is not a time to settle, ESPECIALLY in the bedroom. When it comes to dating – maturity based upon age is irrelevant, but life stages are not. We got very lucky considering our age difference.
We all want a relationship that is enjoyable for both parties. Most people want a partner or companion who appreciates and grows with them. The larger the age gap, the more likely it’s going to be that one person is benefiting more than the other. In this scenario, it can be easier for one person to abuse their perceived “power” within the relationship, whether that power is sex or money. I have yet to personally meet a couple with a large (20+ yrs) age discrepancy where this is not the case. We reached out to real couples with significant age differences to find out how they make their relationships work.
Accept your differences.
Now that I am in my 30s, a five-year gap matters even less. When I was 26 years old, I dated a girl who was five years younger than me. This was not a big, earth-shattering deal for either of us. She, in fact, asked me out first, which was a gesture I greatly appreciated and one that I later reciprocated. However, I remember that our age difference seemed to be something of a big deal to her sister. One day, this sister directed a snarky, can’t-tell-if-she’s-kidding, “robbing-the-cradle” comment in my direction.

A fifth of a 20 year old’s age would be four years, for example, so they could date someone between 16 and 24 . Based on this system, someone who’s 60 would have a 12 year margin, so the age range would be 48 to 72. This can seem quite restrictive but is a good way of judging whether the age range that you’re dating in will widely be deemed appropriate. There’s a picture, I did to help my professional photographer friend, due to lack of male models. You would think there’s maybe a 5 year age difference in that pic. Or is it gym life and healthy eating that prevents middle age, like some of these soft bois here?

These clients say the people they date have different names and faces, but the same fundamental problems. Basically, they repeatedly date people who are addicted, abusive, emotionally and psychologically unavailable, prone to infidelity, in love with someone else, etc. Whatever the problem, these clients’ choices nearly always mirror the neglect, enmeshment, abuse, and inconsistency they experienced when young.
